It may be February 3rd, but Antoine Mountain officials insist the refurbished ski hill will open at some point this season.
The Mattawa area ski hill has had its challenges. With no snowmaking equipment in place this year, they are completely reliant on Mother Nature to supply enough white stuff to make skiing and snowboarding safe on their slopes high above the Ottawa River.
“Please note that we will not be cancelling the season, and we do plan to open soon,” said Sarina Goad, Antoine Mountain Director of Community Engagement & Social Media.
“The team is aware that everyone is anxious to get back on top this season and it is important that it is done safe and it is done right.”
Goad adds the staff is working hard towards providing everyone an opening date.
“The snowfall has been very helpful during this process, but there are still things to be completed in order for us to provide everyone with a safe experience on the mountain as well as inside the facility,” she told BayToday.ca in an email Monday afternoon.

Goad hopes to have more news on Antoine Mountain’s skiing status by the end of the week.
